Why we Replace Toxic Synthetics with Fertile Materials

Driven by Experience, Dedicated to Well-Being

Partikal was born eight years ago out of a personal experience
Our founder, Rik, was living with friends who designed plastic chairs and worked with epoxy resins.
After walking into their workshop one day, the chemical fumes triggered a severe throat infection and swelling
.

That moment changed his way of working.

Knowing that we spend an average of 20 hours a day indoors,
Rik realized how we are affected by materials around us

Common plastics, synthetic binders, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) constantly off-gas toxic substances into our living spaces
He decided then that no one, neither his family, friends, nor customers, should be surrounded by materials that harm their health.

Investing 8 years of his life

Instead of settling for conventional options that simply “do less harm,” Rik embarked on an intensive journey to create a radically clean alternative.
After more than 16,000 hours of research, testing, and development, a unique natural material was created
.
By combining plant
fibers with a non-toxic, soil-fertile binder, he created a truly regenerative foundation for interior design.

Panels by Plants was born.
And has these three advantages.

  • Healthy Homes: Materials completely free from toxic off-gassing, keeping indoor air clean and protecting long-term health.

  • Mental Calm: Inspired by biophilic design, our textured, natural surfaces help lower heart rates and reduce stress, offering a peaceful contrast to cold, sterile environments.

  • A Fertile Future: We don’t aim for “less bad”. Our materials actively absorb carbon and, at the end of their lifecycle, safely return to the earth to enrich the soil.

At Partikal, we develop materials and build furniture
that work for you, not against you.

Unfortunately that is Unique.

The materials we choose today shape the world of tomorrow.

Our Mission

Being the simple change

We live in a world increasingly dominated by synthetic chemicals, waste, pollution

Modern manufacturing often treats the environment and human health as acceptable collateral damage

At Partikal, we refuse to accept this as the standard. Our mission is to make that change of material usage. A uncompromising way of working that is embedded in all our work. We know that human living can exist in harmony with the natural world.

We aim to lead a fundamental shift in how materials are created, used, and returned to the earth.
By creating furniture and materials for interiors that protect the human health and actively restore ecological systems, we prove that living well does not have to come at the expense of our planet
.

Restoring Health to People and Planet

Our mission operates on two deeply interconnected levels:
protecting human life inside, and regenerating the world outside.
  1. Empowering Healthy Living: We spend roughly 20 hours a day indoors. By completely eliminating toxic synthetic resins, off-gassing chemicals, and artificial coatings, our materials and furniture ensure that the air you breathe inside your home or workspace actively supports the physical vitality and mental peace.

  2. Locking Away Carbon: Rather than contributing to global emissions through chemical production and incineration, our panels capture and lock away 7 kg of CO2 per m2 within the plant fibers.
By storing carbon directly in interior structures, our materials achieve industry-leading sustainability scores and serve as a tangible carbon sink
    .

Ultimate Goal: 100% Fertile Furniture

What truly sets our mission apart is what happens at the end of a product’s life. Industry norms dictate that old furniture ends up in landfills or incinerators, releasing toxic fumes into the atmosphere
We have flipped this cycle completely. Where recycling fails, fertile materials win.

We started with the most important part of the product. The Panel by Plants core.
From there we work on fertile connection methods and natural coatings.

Why is this important ?

When our panels reach the end of their journey and are taken back, they do not turn into waste.
Because our material is fully fertile and 100% rain-compostable, it decomposes naturally to enrich the soil.
There is a big challenge ahead.
It is the desertification of our soil, making the soil unfit for crop growth. This is happening on a large scale across the Mediterranean in Europe.

We provide vital nutrients back to the earth so that new plants, crops, and fibers can grow once again.

With our life-giving materials, we close the loop entirely—building a future where human innovation leaves the world healthier than we found it
